What type of fish can I catch in Miami?

Miami offers a wide variety of species, including groupers, snappers, barracudas, jacks, hogfish, mackerel, and many more. Depending on the season and conditions, you may encounter over 25 different species.

What fish can we catch, and what are the legal size limits?

Before every trip, I will explain the legal size and bag limits for the most common species. I will also show you reference pictures so you can easily identify which fish are legal to harvest.

What are the water conditions like in Miami?

Water temperatures range from approximately 24°C (75°F) during the winter to 28°C (82°F) in the summer. Visibility typically ranges from 40 to 80 feet (12–25 meters), depending on weather and ocean conditions.

What wetsuit should I wear?

A 3 mm wetsuit is recommended during the winter months, while a 1 mm wetsuit or rash guard is usually enough during the summer.

What size spearguns do you use?

The spearguns we use typically range from 100 cm to 130 cm, depending on the target species and water visibility.

Are sharks common?

Yes. Sharks are part of the marine ecosystem in Miami and can occasionally be seen during our trips. They generally do not pose a threat when treated with respect, and safety procedures are always followed.

Do I need to bring my own equipment?

You may bring your own equipment or rent it if needed. For students taking the course, weights and a weight belt are included.

Do I need a fishing license?

Yes. A valid Florida Saltwater Fishing License is required for every participant. It can be purchased online before your trip.

How many people can join a trip?

Private charters can accommodate up to five people.

Will I be alone in the water?

That is your choice. If requested, I can stay in the water with you to supervise, assist, and provide coaching throughout the dive.

How long does a charter last?

Each charter lasts approximately 4 hours.

Where do we go?

We dive at a variety of locations around Miami, including more than 20 artificial reefs and shipwrecks, located up to 6 miles offshore. The final location depends on weather and sea conditions.

How deep will we dive?

The depth depends entirely on your experience and comfort level. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced diver, we will choose a depth that is safe and appropriate for you.

Do I need previous spearfishing experience?

Some basic diving or spearfishing experience is recommended for our charters. If you are completely new to the sport, I recommend taking my 3-day Spearfishing Course, where you will learn the fundamentals of freediving, safety, equipment, and spearfishing techniques before heading into the ocean.
